Kurt Cobain’s favourite band Teenage Fanclub from bonny Scotland would famously beat Nirvana to Spin album of the year in 1991 with a collection of sanguine sixties melodic pop and crunchy American seventies guitar music . Bandwagonesque was the third album from the Scottish rockers who specialised in breezy sunny melodies backed by crushing crunchy guitars. Sure there isn’t the anger or teenage angst of ‘Nevermind’ but for the most part this rocked just as hard. Just take out the Black Sabbath/Stooges from Nirvana and replace with the chiming guitars of Big Star and you won’t be far off Teenage Fanclub.
