Quite possibly the most surreal moment in the history of Top of the Pops was when The Jesus Lizard played their side to their split single with Nirvana. As great as the band were, never in a million years would you expect to see them on Britian's number one pop show of the time. These guys certainly know how to rock and truly make an awsome roar but pop hooks are on severely limited supply. The BBC booked them to play for the unspecting masses but as in the words of lead singer David Yow "Nirvana were the only reason we got on the show". Its a shame there's no video of Youtube of the performace but as this video of the single 'Puss' demonstrates, filing under easy listening is not an option. Now imagine 2 dozen 12 year girls having to pretend dance to these boys. As far as subverting the mainstream it was a master stroke by Nirvana.
