Bass, drums and guitar? Check. Screeching loud guitars? Check. Glorious pop songs? Check. The idea is to take a pop song and strangle it until it’s almost unrecognisable. This was the pretty much the ultimate Nirvana strategy from the word go (‘Love Buzz’) so comparisons to East Kilbride’s finest sons should be almost self-explanatory. JAMC first single was a perfect slice of bubble gum pop drenched in the most ear piercing feedback ever committed to tape. Where Nirvana went Black Sabbath, The Jesus and Mary Chain went The Velvet Underground. Yet both had at all times the beating heart of a glorious pop song. These 2 bands were also joined by Kurt’s favourite band The Pixies who also specialised in taking great pop songs and screwing with them.
